Conference scheduled April 20-21, 2017 at Unicoi State Park

Atlanta, GA (March 2, 2017) – Is your city or county about to start updating your local comprehensive plan?  Have you recently updated your plan, but need help implementing your new plan?  DCA has just the workshop to help get you on the road to successful local planning for a brighter future for your community!  The Office of Planning and Environmental Management for the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) has scheduled its spring Community Planning Institute, “Preparing and Implementing your Comprehensive Plan”, at Unicoi State Park & Lodge on Thursday and Friday, April 20 and 21.  Unicoi State Park & Lodge is a 1,050-acre state park located immediately north-northeast of Helen, Georgia.

This 2-day workshop focuses on preparing and implementing a comprehensive plan, beginning with how and why a community plans for its future and concluding with information on putting the plan into practice.  Governments with plan due dates in late 2017 and 2018 are encouraged to attend this course.

Preparing and Implementing Your Comprehensive Plan

The 2-day agenda will cover topics including legal aspects involved with zoning, how to implement the comprehensive plan, how to increase stakeholder involvement in the planning process, and best practices proven to move a community forward.  Each day there will be peer-to-peer lessons from successful PlanFirst communities.
